By moving in September, the first seasons in the new neighbourhood were actually autumn and winter, so when spring came around, all of a sudden, the estate bloomed into life, quite literally. The gardens were awash with colour, and even the little traffic island in the middle of the estate had tulips growing under the lamppost.
Seeing all the lovely colours gave me loads of ideas for yarn flowers. But one day, I was walking near a Peterborough park and saw a bed full of black tulips. I did a bit of searching on t'Internet, and it turns out they are the "Queen of the Night" variety. They're not actually black (although they look black from a distance) but a dark shade of plum.
However, I see a stray head of lavender has managed to sneak into the bouquet somehow!
