I've been pretty good with my resolutions in the past couple of years. I like to make sure I pick one that is at least achieveable.
For 2013 I've decided to go on a diet. But not a food diet, a YARN diet.
According to my Ravelry profile on the 1st January, I have 57 different types of yarn in my stash, along with 15 up for sale or trade. And that's just the different types - there are often multiple balls within those types. For example, I have 26 balls of a particular felting wool that only counts as one entry. Add to that all the odds & ends that I don't have listed on Ravelry and that's a lot of yarn.
Seasoned Ravelers would scoff at this stash - it's miniscule compared with some community members' hoard, but my stash is occupying a cupboard and it's now so cluttered I can't find anything in it. Even the cat won't venture in because she knows she'll never get out again. She did try, but realised after getting her nose in that she really didn't want to go any further. A wise move.
So, during 2013, I will be aiming to get that number of stashed yarns reduced by December and I'm going to get that cupboard organised. I'm not going to set a target - I just want to see each month how I'm getting on. I'll report on how many types are stashed or for sale, as well as the weight of the unlisted odds & ends.
So, when does the diet begin? Well, I'm going to let myself off for a few weeks first. The January sales are in full swing and so I may as well stock up while there are bargains to be had. Once I've had a good rummage around the shops, I'll see where my stash is at and then, The Diet Will Begin. Erk!
